Abstract
The influence of the different ATM (asynchronous transfer mode)/IP traffic
types on the processes executed on the optical physical layer are studied. The
signal power and the power transients are considered as a function of the ATM/IP
traffic transmitted to the ATM physical layer via a bit-oriented interface. The
self-similar behavior of ATM/IP traffic is observed and analyzed with the wavelet
transform techniques. The dependence of the power transients on the transmitted
traffic is shown by mathematical modeling and by computer simulation. The fractal
structure is obtained, and its dimension is evaluated.
