An Examination of the Principles of Orthostereoscopic Photomicrography and Some Applications

Abstract

A method of orthostereoscopic photomicrography has been developed primarily for the purpose of the measurement of relative spatial angles of α-ray tracks in photographic emulsions. The conditions for obtaining the requisite perspectives from photographs made with a compound microscope system, and the necessary relations between the positions of an internal stop in the microscope, the shift of the object on the stage, and the mounting of the perspectives in a special form of Wheatstone stereoscope are discussed. A number of trial measurements with dry lenses and immersion microscope systems with magnifications ranging from ×100 to ×970 illustrate the application of the theory. The methods are applicable to other objects.
