Abstract
This paper is concerned with a presentation and an attempted evaluation of the various factors governing successful observations with the microscope using fluorescence technics. The primary considerations are: (1) brightness of the fluorescent image in absolute terms and (2) brightness level, image contrast and resolving power of the eye. Details concerning various contributing elements, such as brightness of ultraviolet radiating sources, methods of illumination, selection of optical accessories, and transmitting and absorbing filters for use with visible and ultraviolet radiations, are presented in the text and accompanying tables of data.
