Calculation of Index of Refraction of Gases from Absorption Data

Abstract

A method for computing index of refraction of gases from absorption data is described. The index of refraction for CO2 over a wide range of frequencies was calculated and found consistent with experimental data. The index of refraction of water vapor was calculated for the frequency range 0 to 7400 cm−1.
