Abstract
A description of the operation of the compound etalon with identical spacings is given. Conditions are given for the superposition of ghosts produced by reflections between etalons on the main pattern. The methods used in achievement of accurate register of the interference patterns for all wavelengths are described. Examples are given contrasting the use of the compound interferometer external and internal to the spectrograph.
