A Ratio Recording Double-Beam Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer

Abstract

A single-beam infrared spectrophotometer has been converted to a ratio recording double-beam ultraviolet spectrophotometer. This conversion is simple and inexpensive since only commercially available parts are needed. The instrument uses a single detector and a phase discriminating system to separate the dual beams. The recorder presents the electrical ratio which is drift free. Auxiliary apparatus to correct for difference of spectral response of the two beams is not required since both beams travel over identical optical paths and fall on the same detector.

Spectra are presented as percent transmission versus wavelength over the range 215 to 600 millimicrons.
