Abstract

The diffusion of light by the ground surfaces of samples of fused quartz has been investigated at various wavelengths between 253.7 and 546.1 mμ. The surfaces were ground with abrasives having various particle sizes, and the experiments were made with both the ground and the unground sides of the sample facing the light. They were also made with the light incident at various angles and collected in a normal direction, as well as with the light incident normal and collected at various angles. The dependence of the apparent spectral radiance on wavelength and angle is shown.
