Astigmatism in Light-Deflector Elements

Abstract

Astigmatism introduced in a convergent light beam by isotropic parallel plates and prisms, birefringent parallel plates including fractional-wave plates and split-angle deflectors, and by Wollaston prisms is studied. Expressions for the astigmatic differences are obtained. The results are experimentally verified. This study is related to the influence on image quality of light deflectors.
