Energy levels belonging to higher members of the 4f14 6sns, 4f14 6snd, and 4f14 6snp sequences in Yb i are identified. Calculations based on the Ritz–Rydberg formula for the various series confirm the above-mentioned identifications and also result in consistent values for the ionization potential. Coupling schemes for the 4f14 6snd and 4f14 6snp sequences are discussed. The results obtained are compared with those of similar sequences of the type 4fN 6sns, 4fN 6snd, and 4fN 6snp in Ba i and in Eu i.
