Index of Refraction and Verdet Constant of Atomic Helium

Abstract

The index of refraction and Verdet constant of atomic helium are calculated with the Padé approximant method from the first two oscillator strengths and the numerical values of α+(ν) which are connected with the dynamic polarizability α(ν) through the relation α(ν) = α+(ν) + α+(−ν). The results are compared with the experimental as well as the theoretical and semiempirical values.
