Abstract

The resonance lines and other ground-term combinations of Ar ii have been measured in high orders of the NBS 10.7-m vacuum spectrograph. For one of the resonance lines, the wavelength 919.7810 ± 0.0002 Å was found, and for the interval between the resonance lines 12.2727 ± 0.00035 Å, which is 1.4 mÅ (0.17 cm−1) larger than the previously reported value. The new results have been used to improve the 3s3p6 and 3p4nl levels in relation to the ground state and to derive 100 very accurate Ritz standards between 762 and 465 Å. The accuracy for many lines is ±0.0002 Å or better; the limits of error for others are ±0.0003 Å.
