Abstract

Various properties of potassium tantalate potassium niobate (KTN) related to pyroelectric detection were studied. Measurements of dielectric constant, spontaneous polarization, and pyroelectric coefficient versus electric field for various temperatures are given. Enhanced responsivity and D* due to improved pyroelectric coefficient with biasing was observed. Theoretical expressions exhibit similar results. A D* of 3×107Hz12cm12 with no biasing and 1.3×108Hz12cm12 at optimum biasing were obtained.
