Abstract
The optimum frequency response of a laser scanner achievable through apodization is investigated for both intensity-modulated and wobble-modulated beams. A general integral equation for the aperture-illumination function that gives the maximum value of the equivalent bandwidth over a specified range of frequencies is derived. Three analytical solutions of this equation are given, corresponding to the bandwidth computed over the entire passband of the scanner and for the upper and lower halves of that passband. The problem of maximizing the bandwidth while maintaining certain constraints on the frequency response is treated. An integral equation is derived for the aperture-illumination function that gives the maximum value of the integral of the square of the frequency response over the entire passband, and an approximate analytic solution of this equation is obtained.
