Abstract

The ratio of the decay rates for the transitions 6p5d 1P1–5d2 1D2 and 6p5d 1P1–6s2 1S0 has been measured. The result implies an oscillator strength f ~0.51 for the former transition whose strength was not previously known. The large oscillator strength of this transition is remarkable when it is compared to the strength of the closely related 6s6p 1P1–6s5d 1D2 transition, which is only f ≤ 0.0034.
