Abstract

A Mueller matrix formalism is used for finding the relations between the reflection coefficient of a diffracting half-plane and the polarization of the diffracted wave. Experiments were made on diffracting consisting of graphite-pine rosin or graphite-paraffin mixture in the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Measurements on the polarization of diffracted waves were made; the results were used for calculation of the reflection coefficient and then the complex permittivity of the diffracting object.
