Computational approach for predicting the optical behavior of multimode fiber optic switching devices

Abstract

A computational approach has been developed for predicting the optical behavior of multimode electro-optic switching devices as a function of voltage. A highly moded electro-optic channel was used as a vehicle for testing the validity of the computational procedure. The comparison of optical through-put efficiency as a function of voltage for this structure demonstrated good agreement with experimental measurements and indicated that the approach can be used to predicted the behavior of more complicated structures.
