Abstract

The displacement of a spherical target from the geometric focus of the focusing optic changes the irradiance of the target. A modification of the formalism of J. H. Erkkila [ J. H. Erkkila, “ Laser light scattering and absorption in dense, spherically symmetric plasmas,” Ph.D thesis, University of California, Report No. UCRL-51914, 1975 (unpublished)] that accounts for this change is necessary to analyze the absorption of laser light by displaced spherical plasmas.
