Losslessness of optical systems in a vectorial treatment

Abstract

To be lossless, an optical data-processing system has to satisfy a certain relation. In this paper such a relation will be derived for an optical system excited by vector fields. Combined with a reciprocity relation derived earlier, this relation will lead to the concept of time reversibility.
