Abstract
Simultaneous measurements of the emittances and electrical resistance of films (200 nm) of nickel and stainless steel sputtered onto glass tubes have been made over the temperature range 60–440°C. The nickel film exhibits bulk behavior, and the results are in reasonable agreement with those calculated from the resistance behavior by using Drude theory, with surface scattering included. There is some evidence for contributions from interband transitions. The stainless-steel film gave results that are in approximate agreement with theory, but differences associated with the finite thickness of the film are observed.
