Abstract

The propagation and focusing of arbitrary Gaussian beams with spherical wave fronts in polynomial-index waveguides are analytically investigated with the use of algebraic perturbation theory and generalized coherent-states representation. The nonparaxiality of the beam propagation is also taken into account. It is shown that the effect of large-scale periodical beam-field revival is also valid for arbitrary Gaussian beams. The results obtained may be used for the characterization of focusing graded-index lenses and for the realization of image transmission through graded-index optical fibers over large distances.
