Abstract

The three-dimensional transfer function described by Drazic [ J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 9, 725 ( 1992)] for a weakly modulated object in a confocal reflection microscope is shown to be invalid because it neglects both the bilinear terms and the phase difference between different planes.
