Abstract
It is shown that the full ellipsometric Mueller matrix can be determined from measurements of only the phases of the harmonic components on a single detected signal. Such phase measurements may be preferable to the conventional amplitude measurements, because they are less sensitive to noise. Furthermore it is shown that the proposed method of modulating the polarization allows a very good time resolution (down to ).
