Nonspecular phenomena on Gaussian beam reflection at dielectric interfaces

Abstract

It is shown that, on reflection at a dielectric interface, a Gaussian beam undergoes changes in the radius of curvature of its wave front, the beam divergence angle, and the longitudinal propagation constant in addition to the nonspecular effects derived by Tamir [ J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 3, 558 ( 1986)] and others. The profile of the reflected beam also departs from that of a Gaussian beam when beam deflection exists. Various expressions for the beam parameters are derived.
