Abstract

Recently there has been interest in all-optical switching devices that may be implemented in optical communications or optical computing. I derive soliton solutions for the birefringent fiber filter coupler with the assumption of an ellipticity angle of 35°. In particular, I calculate the soliton switching behavior and illustrate it with some simple examples. I describe the conditions for soliton switching in terms of initial conditions and optical fiber parameters.
