Effects of nonlinear self-phase modulation of the transmitted signal on synchronization behavior of chaotic semiconductor lasers

Abstract

We investigate theoretically the effects of nonlinear phase distortion on synchronization of two identical unidirectionally coupled chaotic semiconductor lasers. When we take into account the self-phase modulation of the transmitted signal in an optical communication channel, we find that distortion severely affects synchronization. The effects of self-phase modulation on synchronization error relative to the power of the transmitting signal and the optical fiber length are studied.
