Abstract

A recent paper [J. Opt. Soc. Am. B 24, 1633 (2007)] reports the gain and sensitivity of a time-resolved fluorescence spectrometer based on parametric amplification. We question the claimed detection limit and explanation for the unusual temporal shape of the measured signal at very low levels of fluorescence. We provide an alternative explanation for the observations. Several other points are also clarified.
