Abstract
This paper discusses the visibility issue of the moiré pattern, which may appear on display screens as a result of the interference between screen pixel array and other periodical structures having size of pitch close to that of the pixel array. One such example of a periodic structure is a touch screen electrode panel (TSP) mesh. An analytical method for visibility simulation using the human eye’s contrast sensitivity function is developed. This method is based on the representation of the periodical structures as a 2D Fourier series and visibility criterion as a root mean square value of the moiré pattern. The resulting visibility dependence on TSP mesh parameters is described in the form of an plot. The newly proposed design method, by optimizing the geometrical structure of the TSP electrode, realized the lowest visibility on the metal mesh for a transparent touch screen.
