Stable pulse generation in a bias-pumped gain-switched fiber laser

Abstract

We demonstrate that a gain-switched fiber laser with bias pumping plays an important role in regulating chaotic relaxation spikes. Under certain conditions the profile of output pulses from a gain-switched fiber laser can keep the same shape as that of the pump pulse. The bias pumping technique may significantly increase the output stable pulse energy in a gain-switched fiber laser. Gain-switched fiber lasers with bias pumping may be of interest for some applications in microprocessing and thin film removal.
