Abstract

The spectrum of mercury was photographed in the 800–2000-Å range on a 3-m normal-incidence spectrograph using a triggered spark source. The 5d86s–5d86p transitions have been analyzed. One level of the 5d86p configuration reported earlier has been rejected, whereas the assignment of another level has been revised All levels except two (1S)2P in the 5d86p configuration and all except one (1S)2S in the 5d86s configuration have been established. Least-squares-fitted calculations support the analysis. Two hundred fifty-nine additional lines have been classified in the Hg iv spectrum.
