Abstract
The effects of finite beamwidth and absorption on the collinear and one-beam noncritical noncollinear phase-matched second-harmonic generation (SHG) and sum-frequency generation (SFG) processes in 3-methyl-4-nitropyridine-1-oxide (POM) are investigated. Expressions for the generated powers from the collinear and noncollinear phase-matching configurations are given and compared for near-field Gaussian nondepleted input beams. Two ways to improve the efficiency of general type II phase-matched SHG or SFG processes are suggested. The angular tuning characteristics of collinear and noncollinear phase-matched processes in POM are discussed theoretically and experimentally.
