Externally controlled nonlinear interaction between planar waveguide modes propagating in different directions

Abstract

The coupling between two weak guided modes propagating in different directions by means of two strong beams falling from outside on a thin-film nonlinear waveguide is discussed. Direction of propagation and intensity of the guided mode generated in this interaction can be externally controlled by the parameters of the strong waves.
