Authors would like to acknowledge the achievements of the Air Force team in two-photon holographic imaging, who are the first to report on successful holographic recording of large area (ca. 1 mm2) relief grating on a thin photopolymer film (10 microns) employing chromophore AF380 [1]. Also they are the first to report on two-photon holographic imaging of complex 3D structures, in particular of biological nature [2]. The results are claimed to be disclosed in October 1999 [3], later reported on Materials Research Society Meeting in December 1999, as well as later presented on Photonics West’2000 in January 2000 [4, 5]. The chromophore AF380 is described as “one in a series of aromatic heterocyclic donor-acceptor chromophores consisting of π-electron-donating and π-electron-accepting moieties separated by a conjugated aromatic core” [1]. The details of the chemical synthesis of AF380 are submitted for publication (Ref. 18 in [1]) [6].

In view of the above, the claim of the present article is not intended to interfere with the described achievements of the Air Force group and collaborators thereof [19]. The claim remains intact and consists of the first reported implementation of the recording at random location in 3D photopolymer material of holographic gratings employing two-photon induced polymerization and a 200 femtosecond Ti: Sapphire tunable laser operating at 710 nm. A novel photopolymer material is presented with two-photon sensitivity at 710 nm. The chromophore, Benzil-Di-Methyl-Ketal, is a product of Sartomer, Co., (code # Esacure KB1), as well as are the monomers/oligomes - Di-Penta-Erythritol-Penta-Acrylate (code # SR399), Ethoxylated Trimethylol Propane Triacrylate Ester (code # SR9035); the host EPOTEK-301 is a product of Epoxy Technology, Co.
