Feature Issue of Optics Express

Ultrafast Optical Imaging

Submissions Open: 21 March 2022

Submission Deadline: 1 August 2022

Optics Express, a Gold Open Access journal, welcomes submissions to a feature issue on "Ultrafast Optical Imaging."

Ultrafast optical imaging is essential in understanding the underlying mechanisms of transient phenomena in various systems, ranging from molecular rotations, carrier diffusion, to electric signaling in the brain. To address the great demand for frontier scientific research and industrial applications, various technologies of ultrafast optical imaging have been developed in the past decade, and their modalities have been expanded beyond microscopy and now include tomography, spectroscopy, and cytometry. The emergence of new materials, devices and systems, especially, has accelerated the translation of ultrafast optical imaging technologies from laboratory to practicality. New requirements of practical applications, in return, have also created new concepts for ultrafast optical imaging.

This feature issue will highlight the most recent progress in ultrafast optical imaging, from new technologies to applications. It will also provide a better understanding on these new technologies and inspire new ideas for ultrafast optical imaging and its applications.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Single-shot optical microscopy, tomography, and spectroscopy technologies
  • Pump-probe optical imaging
  • Computational optical imaging with high temporal resolution
  • Ultrafast laser sources and other emerging devices for high-speed optical imaging
  • Optical manipulation technologies for ultrafast optics
  • Time-of-flight imaging, life-time imaging technologies
  • Modelling of high-speed optical imaging
  • High-speed optical imaging in physics, biophotonics, chemistry, etc.

All submissions need to present original, previously unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journal. The standard Optics Express Article Processing Charges will apply to all published articles and articles will be freely accessible immediately upon publication.

Please prepare manuscripts according to the author instructions for submission to Optics Express and submit through Prism's manuscript submission system, specifying from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the feature issue on Ultrafast Optical Imaging.
