Abstract
By considering the complex zeros of a band-limited function, ambiguities in Fourier magnitude-only reconstructions, beyond those usually discussed, are shown to be significant. The ambiguities arise from the effect of flip-variant zeros outside the data interval, and the results indicate the need for some degree of spectral extrapolation when retrieving the phase of bandpass signals. An example is given to illustrate the nature and significance of the ambiguity.
