Abstract

Frequency doubling of an Er:YAG laser beam is observed by using a vinylidene cyanide/vinyl acetate copolymer. The nonlinear susceptibility χeff(2) is evaluated to be 5.6 × 10−7 esu, which is 2.8 times larger than that of LiNbO3 crystal. The dependence of the measured χeff(2) on the poling process is analyzed based on a theoretical model.
