Abstract

A birefringent side-hole optical fiber is used to measure dynamic pressure with an interferopolarimetric method. The optical source is a superluminescent diode that gives white-light-type interferograms compatible with coherence multiplexing. The experiments have been conducted with standard commercial electronics. Dynamic pressure measurements are made in the range 10−2 to 103 Pa and are in good agreement with two calibrated piezoelectric dynamic pressure sensors.
