Cross talk of Fabry–Perot filters and its effect on the performance of optical fiber frequency-division-multiplexing/frequency-shift-keying systems

Abstract

Fabry–Perot filters are suitable demultiplexers for use in frequency-division-multiplexed optical fiber communications systems that employ a frequency-shift-keying scheme. In order to arrange the channels efficiently, one should know exactly the cross talk and its detriment to the system performance. We analyze the cross talk, its probability mass function, and its effect on the system performance. The results show that a Fabry–Perot filter with finesse of 100 can support approximately 42 users.
