Čerenkov-based radiation from superluminal excitation in microdroplets by ultrashort pulses

Abstract

We demonstrate from a generalized Lorenz–Mie theory that ultrashort pulses can induce superluminal excitation in microdroplets. A Čerenkov-like effect can thus be expected for sufficiently intense ultrashort pulses.
