Abstract

It is pointed out theoretically that fiber acousto-optic mode coupling can occur between the higher-order modes with adjacent azimuthal numbers. Selective fiber mode conversion from LP01 to LP11, and then to LP21 or LP02 is demonstrated experimentally in a few-mode fiber by using a method of cascaded acousto-optic mode coupling.
