Hyperfine spectroscopy of 6Li+

Abstract

We have used the Doppler-tuned ion-beam laser-spectroscopy method to measure directly the hyperfine intervals in the 23S and 23P° states of the 6Li+ ion. Our high resolution allowed us to obtain the first reported optically resolved hyperfine transitions. We obtain excellent agreement with theory.
