Abstract
Application of a transverse electric field has been found to shift the optical passband of a TE–TM acousto-optic mode converter operating by the collinear interaction of surface acoustic waves and a guided optical beam. The field is applied along the interaction length in Ti-diffused y-cut LiNbO3 and produces a 1-Å shift in optical pass-band for each 105V/m of applied field. The effect is applicable to frequency-multiplexing devices for low-bit-rate optical systems.
