Optical Materials Express Feature issue

Liquid-Crystalline Materials for Optical and Photonic Applications

Submission Opens: 1 February 2023

Submission Deadline: 1 April 2023

Liquid-crystalline materials possess a number of unique characteristics that enable their increasing use in various optical and photonic devices. This feature issue will highlight recent advances in liquid crystalline materials with a focus on optical and photonic applications, including thermotropic and lyotropic mesophases of various types: nematics, cholesterics, smectics and beyond. We welcome submissions that address characterization, device design, performance, modelling, and synthesis of liquid-crystalline optical materials.

Topics to be covered include but are not limited to:

  • Emergent topics in optical properties of liquid crystals and composite liquid crystalline materials (polymer dispersed liquid crystals, polymer stabilized liquid crystals, colloids with nanoparticles, porous structures, emulsion, gels, etc.)
  • Techniques for the characterization, performance, modelling and synthesis of liquid-crystalline optical materials
  • Optical and photonic devices based on liquid crystalline materials (modulators, switchable gratings, lenses, filters, waveguides, fibers, sensors, photonic crystals, lasers, photovoltaic cells, and displays).

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual guidelines for submission to Optical Materials Express and must be submitted online through the Prism submission system. When submitting, authors should specify that the manuscript is for the "Liquid-Crystalline Materials for Optical and Photonic Applications" feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
