Optical Materials Express Feature Issue

Metamaterials, Photonic Crystals, and Plasmonics

Submission Opens: 15 October 2018
Submission Deadline: 1 December 2018

The Optical Materials Express feature issue on "Metamaterials, Photonic Crystals and Plasmonics" will highlight research presented at the International Conference on Metamaterials, Photonic Crystals and Plasmonics (META 2018) held in Marseille, France, from 24 June to 1 July 2018. While meeting participants are particularly encouraged to submit, papers from the wider scientific community will also be considered.

This feature issue will focus on emerging trends in nanophotonics, plasmonics, and metamaterials including theory, design, fabrication and optical characterization of nanophotonic materials, structures and devices for photonic crystals, metamaterials, and plasmonic applications.

Research in these areas has led to development and application of new classes of nanophotonic and plasmonic materials and design approaches that allow advanced engineering of electromagnetic properties for important applications in photonics, optoelectronics, information technology, communication systems, energy, sensing, imaging and security.

Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Emerging materials for nanophotonics
  • Materials and approaches for realization of metamaterials
  • Photonic and plasmonic crystals and cavities
  • Plasmonics and plasmonic materials
  • Graphene and other two-dimensional materials
  • Plasmonics for energy
  • Hot electrons in plasmonic materials
  • Material platforms for quantum nanophotonics
  • Nanobiophotonics
  • Structured light
  • Near-field optics and nano-optics
  • Optomechanics
  • Nanofabrication approaches for photonics

All papers need to present original, previously unpublished work, and will be subject to the normal standards and peer-review process of the Journal. The standard OMEx publication charges will apply to all published articles. To be eligible for publication, the paper needs to be expanded, revised, and/or refined to add value to the original conference summary. See OSA's guidelines on expanded conference papers for details.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual guidelines for submission to Optical Materials Express and must be submitted online through OSA's electronic submission system. When submitting, authors should specify that the manuscript is for the "Metamaterials, Photonic Crystals and Plasmonics" feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
