Optical Materials Express Feature Issue

Biomaterials and Metamaterials for Biosensing

Submission Open: 1 November 2023
Submission Deadline: 1 February 2024

Optical Materials Express welcomes submissions to a feature issue in conjunction with the Bio-metamaterials and Metamaterials for Biosensing session at the Metamaterials Congress to be held in Crete, Greece from 11-16 September 2023. While meeting participants are particularly encouraged to submit their work, the feature is open to other researchers in related areas.

The issue will highlight design and fabrication approaches tailored specifically for biosensing applications, as well as the integration of nanomaterials and nanostructures to enhance biosensor performance. Submissions that focus on the synthesis, characterization, functionalization, and applications of novel materials in the context of biosensing technologies are welcome.

Topics to be covered include but are not limited to:

  • Design and fabrication of biomaterials and metamaterials for biosensing applications;
  • Integration of nanomaterials and nanostructures in biosensors;
  • Surface functionalization and modification strategies for enhanced biosensing performance;
  • Advances in bio-inspired and bioactive materials for biosensing applications;
  • Development of metamaterial-based biosensors for detection and monitoring;
  • Biocompatibility, biofouling, and biodegradation studies of materials in biosensing;
  • Novel fabrication techniques and characterization methods for biomaterials and metamaterials;
  • Hybrid materials and composite structures for advanced biosensing platforms;
  • Applications of biomaterials and metamaterials in personalized medicine and point-of- care diagnostics;
  • Translational research and commercialization prospects in the field of biosensing materials;

All submissions need to present original, previously unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journal. The standard Optical Materials Express Article Processing Charges will apply to all published articles. To be eligible for publication, an expanded conference paper needs to add value to the original conference proceedings. Please see Optica Publishing Group's guidelines on expanded conference papers for details.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual guidelines for submission to Optical Materials Express and must be submitted online through the Prism submission system. When submitting, authors should specify that the manuscript is for the "Biomaterials and Metamaterials for Biosensing" feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
