Optical Materials Express Feature issue

Non-Hermitian Optics and Photonics

Submission Opens:1 October 2022

Submission Deadline: 1 December 2022

Non-Hermitian optics is a rapidly growing field, and the application of non-Hermitian physics to optical devices has been increasing exponentially. This feature will highlight recent developments in this expanding field with a focus on devices based on non-Hermitian optics such as exceptional point sensors, incandescent and quantum light sources, coherent perfect absorbers, and directional waveguides based on parity-time symmetry. Emerging topics such as topological, time-varying, and non-reciprocal devices based on non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, and submissions that focus on new devices, characterization, performance, modelling, and synthesis of optical materials with tailored gain and loss are also welcome.

Topics to be covered included but are not limited to:

  • Parity-time symmetric meta-devices
  • Higher-order exceptional points
  • Time-varying non-Hermitian systems
  • Topological non-Hermitian photonics
  • Non-reciprocal non-Hermitian systems
  • Exceptional point sensors
  • Noise in exceptional point systems
  • Directional light scattering
  • Non-Hermitian light sources and detectors
  • Materials for non-Hermitian meta-devices

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual guidelines for submission to Optical Materials Express and must be submitted online through the Prism submission system. When submitting, authors should specify that the manuscript is for the "Non-Hermitian Optics and Photonics" feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
