Optical Materials Express Feature Issue

Topological Photonics

Submission Opens: 2 January 2024

Submission Deadline: 1 April 2024

Topological photonics offers a remarkable platform that harnesses the concept of topology to confer extraordinarily robust properties upon light. Initially inspired by condensed matter physics to construct "photonic topological insulators," topological photonics has since established itself as a prominent domain in topological physics, enabling numerous unique developments in both fundamental science and practical applications. This feature issue will highlight the latest advances in this dynamic field and encourage continued development in novel directions. Submissions ranging from theoretical advancements to experimental demonstrations, as well as insightful discussions on potential real-world applications are welcome.

Topics to be covered include but are not limited to:

  • Novel topological photonic materials
  • Non-Hermitian topology
  • Topological lasers, cavities, and other devices
  • Topological metasurfaces
  • Quantum topological photonics
  • Topological photonics in real-world applications
  • Theoretical frameworks and computational approaches
  • Topological defects and field singularities
  • Synthetic dimensions in topological physics
  • Quasiparticles and band degeneracies in topological photonic lattices
  • Topology in photonic time crystals

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual guidelines for submission to Optical Materials Express and must be submitted online through the Prism submission system. When submitting, authors should specify that the manuscript is for the "Topological Photonics" feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
