Optical Materials Express Feature Issue

Time-varying artificial photonic metastructures

Submission Open: 1 October 2023

Submission Deadline: 15 December 2023

Optical Materials Express welcomes submissions to a feature issue in conjunction with the Time-varying Metastructures session at the Metamaterials Congress to be held in Crete, Greece from 11-16 September 2023. While meeting participants are particularly encouraged to submit their work, the feature is open to researchers in related areas.

This issue will highlight recent advances and future perspectives in the field of time time-varying artificial structures, i.e., metamaterials and metasurfaces, as platforms for novel light-matter interaction processes. Submissions covering novel models and concepts, effective dynamic modulation architectures, fabrication of time-varying metastructures, experimental verification of anomalous wave phenomena, and applications are welcome.

Topics to be covered include but are not limited to:

  • Time-modulated optical media, including 2D materials and transparent conducting oxides
  • New physics with artificial time-varying media (metamaterials, metasurfaces, etc.)
  • Theoretical and conceptual developments in time-modulated light wave systems
  • Time-modulated metamaterials at low frequencies
  • Microwave, millimeter, or sub-THz applications
  • Experimental advances in time-varying media and surfaces
  • Space-time photonic metamaterials and metasurfaces
  • Non-reciprocity, non-linearity and high harmonic generation
  • Combined space and time-modulation of media properties
  • Excitation theory in time-modulated media
  • Photonic time and Space-time crystals

All submissions need to present original, previously unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journal. The standard Optical Materials Express Article Processing Charges will apply to all published articles. To be eligible for publication, an expanded conference paper needs to add value to the original conference proceedings. Please see Optica Publishing Group's guidelines on expanded conference papers for details.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual guidelines for submission to Optical Materials Express and must be submitted online through the Prism submission system. When submitting, authors should specify that the manuscript is for the "Time-varying artificial photonic metastructures" feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
