A theoretical evaluation for detection and quantification of chemical warfare agents using a long-wave tunable lidar system is presented. Analysis on the detection performance is evaluated with respect to atmospheric transmission, transmission of chemical agents, laser power, distance, SNR and wavelength sequence. Results indicate that measurements are possible with good sensitivity at a long distance (1 km) with reasonable laser power (below 100 mW) within 2 minutes.
