High Harmonics Generation (HHG) yield is directly related to the laser beam intensity and focal volume. In order to increase the production yield of the high harmonics, one requires a large focal volume while increasing the laser pulse intensity. But the two aspects are hardly compatible. A resonant Fabry-Perot cavity is usually implemented to increase the laser pulse intensity. This optical system is subject to numerous constraints for HHG production particularly for extreme ultraviolet (XUV) comb production from a mode-locked infrared laser. The principal constraints account for dispersion management, laser beam mode polarization and small circular focal spot. In this publication, J. Nauta et al. present a new cavity design to ensure a good dispersion management and, for the first time, a totally astigmatism-compensated focal spot (circular beam mode) while ensuring a linear polarization. The cavity is fully characterized (gain, dispersion, beam mode) in the article, and it demonstrates the good agreement between designed and measured performances. This work paves the way toward higher efficiency HHG.
