Quantum sensors based on nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamonds have strong electromagnetic fields, temperature and pressure detection capabilities with high precision. The recently developed fiberized diamond-based quantum sensors have demonstrated feasibility in practical applications due to their high degree of integration and robustness. One of the key properties is sensitivity. In this contribution, Shao et al. report a technique to highly improve the sensitivity of such an optical-fiber quantum magnetometer via magnetic flux concentrators. They fabricated a fiber-coupled diamond magnetometer by adhering a micron-scale diamond containing NV ensembles to the end face of a tapered multimode fiber. Then, the fiber-coupled diamond was inserted between two well-designed cone-shaped magnetic flux concentrators to enhance the sensitivity by more than 200 times, up to 12 pT/Hz^1/2. This integrated quantum sensor has the advantages of high sensitivity and portability, and is the most practical one among many diamond magnetometers. These achievements are certainly interesting for practical applications in a wide range of fields by further improving the performance of sensors.
